About Us

Why United Way?

Despite the very best efforts of thousands of hard working social service agencies, many people in Hunterdon County still don't have better opportunities to learn, work, grow and be successful in life.

Our Community Action Strategy

Today's United Way believes that the key to change -- true systemic change -- is getting to the underlying source of a problem. As such our programs are not quick fixes that just address symptoms, but rather preventative in nature. We ask questions such as:

How can we keep a family on the verge of eviction from becoming homeless?

How can we ensure that at-risk youth succeed in school and don't become dropout statistics?

How can we prevent families from having to choose between keeping a roof over their heads and putting food on the table?

We also believe that to create change on a scale that matters, we must work in collaboration with a broad range of partners -- government, business, foundations, advocacy groups, neighborhood agencies, and individual donors -- who share a common vision.
