Tools For School

Back in 2004 employees at Ingersoll-Rand's Business Development Center in Annandale created Tools for School as a Caring Connection project to help provide opportunities for Hunterdon County children to reach their full potential in school.  From its simple beginnings the project has continued to grow and evolve to what is now known as United Way of Hunterdon County's Tools 4 School program.

The Problem:

Many families worry about the beginning of the school year because of the expense of buying back-to-school items. Receiving a donation of these supplies helps free up some family income for other necessities. Our Tools 4 Schools program supports Hunterdon County students in achieving greater educational success, by providing students the necessary basic tools so that they start the school year ready to learn.

The Strategy:

United Way of Hunterdon County partners with individuals, volunteers, companies, small businesses and organizations for the Tools 4 Schools drive. Donations of school supplies such as backpacks, pens, pencils, calculators and notebooks were provided by employees of local businesses and organizations for students who are unable to afford them.

United Way of Hunterdon County is very appreciative of the local businesses, organizations, private donors, and volunteers that participated in the 2011 Tools 4 Schools program and their enthusiasm and willingness to assist in United Way’s mission to advance the common good.
