Helping Neighbors Through Challenging Times

For almost 35 years, United Way of Hunterdon County’s mission has been clear: to bring people and resources together to improve lives and conditions and to advance the common good of our community. We remain unwavering in our efforts to assist those most at risk - ALICE, our neighbors who are Asset Limited, Income Constrained and Employed.

If you don’t think you know ALICE, think again. ALICE takes care of our children and our aging parents, assists us at our favorite stores and keeps us safe. Sometimes ALICE is retired and living on a fixed income while the cost of living continues to sky rocket. ALICE households earn more than the Federal Poverty Level but less than the basic cost of living, which in Hunterdon County is $81,168 for a family of 4. Twenty-four percent of our Hunterdon County neighbors live below the ALICE threshold. We all know ALICE.

Editorial that appeared in April 30th issue of Hunterdon County Democrat:

United Way of Hunterdon County continues to assist ALICE by providing income support programs like Holiday Hands and Tools 4 School. We help ALICE stay on the road to financial stability through our VITA free tax preparation and financial coaching programs. We advocate for ALICE because everyone in our community deserves access to affordable, good health care, a good education and jobs that pay a living wage.

We encourage our neighbors to take a closer look at the work being done right here in Hunterdon to help those at risk in our community. We ask you to support organizations that help keep our community whole. We hope you will advocate for those whose voices are not heard, volunteer your time and share your talents to help build a stronger community and give to organizations and causes that matter most to you.

We invite you to join our network of more than 1,000 volunteers who are committed to helping ALICE by creating sustainable solutions to the challenges facing our community.  When you support United Way of Hunterdon County you invest in our partnerships with businesses, nonprofits, government, civic, schools, faith-based organizations and more. An investment in United Way of Hunterdon County is an investment in the increasing needs of today and in positive change for tomorrow.
