United Way of Hunterdon County recently launched our Tools 4 School Technology Program! With a generous donation of laptops from ExonMobil and the help of their employees to load software, we are now able to host free computer literacy classes and loan computers to members of our community.

This program was created from the need to bridge the "digital divide", which is the gap between individuals with access to computers, tools, and internet connectivity as compared to those with minimal or no access. Here in Hunterdon County, we work with many adults with limited computer skills, and many individuals who have no access to computers. This program aims to bridge this digital inequity gap by providing loaner laptops to our participants, as well as hosting group skills classes and 1-on-1 training.

Our classes review basics such as accessing email and learning how to safely navigate the internet. Other sessions cover information for parents are guardians to learn Genesis, the learning portal used by the Flemington Raritan School District. Our participants benefit by gaining digital skills that help them access resources, further their careers, and stay connected with their child's education.
