Tax Preparation Assistance (VITA)

United Way of Hunterdon County (UWHC) offers FREE assistance with tax return preparation for low-to-moderate income Hunterdon County area residents. In 2021, 64 volunteers in our community helped to file 1,400+ returns, resulting in more than $2.5 million in refunds to Hunterdon County residents and employees. Together we ensure our hardworking neighbors who are in poverty or living paycheck to paycheck as ALICE® (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) get back every dollar they are due – putting them on a path to financial stability.

If you are a volunteer, we are currently recruiting volunteers with all levels of experience, including seasoned tax preparers to Spanish speaking translators to volunteer facilitators. More information is available here. No experience is necessary - just a willingness to help. Virtual volunteer opportunities will be available.

If you are a client, we will post more about how to schedule tax appointments in late 2021. Meanwhile, watch our VITA Story on PBS and read our FAQs here.
